Ecosystem of smartphone apps is undoubtedly very vast and diverse. There will be innumerable number of competing apps even in a precisely defined limited category such as ‘running games’. Games such as Temple Run, Subway Surfers, Agent Dash as well as their sequels and knock offs crowd this category. The selection becomes even more diverse as the category becomes wider such as ‘adventure games’, ‘strategy games’, ‘multiplayer games’, ‘e-commerce apps’ etc. In this article, we will be taking a quick look at my take on some of the most useful apps from a number of criterions.

This is a category that includes a number of must have apps for most users. Some of them are obviously whatsapp, facebook and twitter. However since ‘social media detox’ is a popular phrase now a days, one can also choose to forego all apps from this category or even limit himself or herself to one app like whatsapp.

This again is a category that can be wholly avoided by those who prefer to use their smartphones solely for productivity purposes. However even the most productive person in the planet may like to relax now and then and in such occasions , games such as Alto’s adventure and Alto’s odyssey will prove to be great stress busters. Both games are my personal favorites and are best played while making use of headphones or earphones. For hardcore gamers, there are games such as Asphalt 8, Asphalt 9, Unkilled, Shadow Fight 3, Storm Blades etc. Asphalt series of Games and NFS games by EA are racing games whereas games like Unkilled, Shadow Fight 3 etc are action games. Roleplay game enthusiasts can take a look at games like Wolf Among Us and Murder in the Alps. Finally this is only a very short list and we have just touched the tip of the iceberg.

This is one category of apps which are almost unavoidable for a modern day user. Some of my recommendations include Amazon, Flipkart and also food delivery apps like Swiggy and Zomato. Some other options Myntraa, Bigbasket Nykaa and brand specific apps like Ustraa.

A lot of people do their financial transactions now a days through their smartphones. Here some of my solid recommendations include Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe.

Wallpaper Apps

This is a niche criteria. Many people may be perfectly happy with the stock wallpapers provided by the respective manufacturers of their devices. However considering the display quality of most modern smartphones, it is always a fun exercise to experiment with diverse walpapers. Some of my recommendations in this category are Starless, Walli, WallP, Tapet and AmoledPix.

Some of my other recommendations

Amazon Kindle- For those who like reading in their smartphones

Camscanner- A handy app to take scanned copies of documents
